If your pen drive is write-protected, you may not have the ability to modify files or format the drive. There are a few things you can do to remove write protection from a USB drive. However, it's also possible the drive may be failing or locked with security software making it impossible to write to. Mr. Tekeste Geremew teaches you how to remove write protection from your USB pen drive on a Windows or macOS computer.

Removing Write Protection on a USB Drive

• Insert and switch the USB drive into your Windows or Mac device.
• For Windows users, open “Run,” type “Diskpart,” and press enter. Type “select disk #” “attributes disk clear readonly” “clean” “create partition primary” “format fs=fat32” and “exit."
• For Mac users, double-click the Disk Utility icon in the Utilities folder. Select your pen drive and preferred file system type and click “Erase.”

Toggle the switch on the USB drive. If your USB drive has a physical write-protection switch on its exterior, it might be in the wrong (locked) position. Try toggling the switch before you continue with this method.

• In some instances, a pen drive can be locked using security software that prevents permission changes on a flash drive. If this is the case, you may not be able to remove write protection from the USB drive. You will need to use the program that was used to apply the write-protection to remove it.

2. Insert the pen drive into an open USB slot. You can use any available USB slot on your PC.

3. Right-click the Start 

 menu. It's usually at the bottom-left corner of the screen. This displays a menu.

Click Run. It's at the bottom of the menu that appears when you right-click the Windows Start menu. This opens Run in a new window.

Type diskpart into Run and press ↵ Enter. This opens Diskpart in the Command Prompt.

Type list disk and press ↵ Enter. A list of all drives, including your pen drive, will appear. Each drive is labeled "Disk (number)", and each number is unique to that drive.

    

• You should be able to identify your USB drive by how much space it has listed under "Size". For example, if your USB drive is a 32 GB drive, it should say "32 GB" or close to that below "Size" in the Command Prompt.

Type select disk # and press ↵ Enter. Replace # with the number of your pen drive (i.e. "select disk 3"). This selects the USB drive in Diskpart.

Type attributes disk clear readonly and press ↵ Enter. This should remove write-protected status from the drive.

Type clean and press ↵ Enter. This should remove the data from the drive. Once it's removed, you'll be able to set it up for use.

Type create partition primary and press ↵ Enter. This creates a partition on the USB drive.

Type format fs=ntfs, format fs=fat32 or format fs=exFAT and press ↵ Enter. .\This selects the file system you want the USB drive to use.^[2]

• Type "format fs=ntfs" if you want the drive to be readable only by a Windows computer.
• Type "format fs=fat32". If the drive is less than 32GB, and you want it to be compatible with the largest number of devices.
• Type "format fs=exFAT" if the drive is greater than 32GB, and you want it to be compatible with the largest number of devices.

Type exit and press ↵ Enter. This returns you to the standard command

Steps

1. Reboot the computer

1. Right after the bios is finished, hit F8 (or F2,F10,F12)

4. Open Command Prompt. You can go to Start > Run and type cmd.exe or simply search for cmd using the Windows search function.
5. Type net user and press Enter. This will bring up a list of user accounts. Look here for the name and exact spelling of the account whose password you wish to change.
6. Type net user name goes here *. Do not neglect any of the spaces (particularly the one before the *) or the command won’t work.
7. Press Enter. Once submitted, the command will give you the option of typing a new password for the user.
8. Carefully type the desired password and press Enter. The characters will not display as you type, so make sure the Caps Lock isn’t on and be very thorough with the spelling and punctuation.
9. Retype the password to confirm. This should weed out any typos.
10. Press Enter. The new password should go into effect immediately. If you get an error message or your access is denied, the account you’re working on doesn’t have high enough authorization to change any passwords. See Tips for possible solutions.

How to Make Your Own Tone
Generator

A tone generator is known by several
names including function generator,
signal generator, frequency generator,
digital pattern generator and pitch
generator. A tone generator is built to
create non-repeating as well as
repeating electronic sounds. These tones
can either be analog or digital in nature.
A tone generator is often used to test,
repair, troubleshoot and design other
electroacoustic and electronic devices. A
tone generator can also be used as a way
to generate musical tones made popular
by DJs all over the world. Building a tone
generator is not that difficult and can be
done with simple electronics you may
already own and this article will show you
how.

Step 1 - Wiring the Motors and
Speaker
Each of the motors you have should
already have wires attached to them. If
they do not, then add some by soldering
them in place. Otherwise you can use the
wire strippers to remove the casing from
each of the wires. Take apart the 4-inch
speaker and remove the wires coming out
of it. When you are finished all of these
components will be connected to each
other.
Unravel the ribbon cable and strip the
ends of the dual black and white wire as
well as the ends of the large white
cable. Solder the white cable from the
ribbon cable to the positive of the
speaker and the positive wire from the
CD drive motor to the negative of the
speaker. The next thing to do is to solder
the negative wire from the CD drive
motor to the positive of the mini motor.
The final bit of wiring is to solder the
negative of the mini motor to the
negative wire of the black and white dual
wire. Once you do these connections you
have the main wiring of the tone
generator complete.

Step 2 - Power Supply
The power supply can be salvaged from
many current video game consoles. These
are perfect because the end that goes
inside the game console is round. Form
the exposed wire from the white cable
into a loop and slide it onto the end of
the round power supply jack. Make sure
it is tightly wound and fits snug on the
cable.


This is a simple tone generator and to
use it is just as simple as it was building
it. Plug the power supply into the wall.
You'll notice that both motors will begin
to move and sound will be generated
through the speaker. You are essentially
creating an AC current instead of a DC
current. You can change the tone
generated by applying pressure to either
of the motors. As you manipulate the
motors you are actually causing a short
to occur. Once this happens the current
is directed through the other wires which
in turn creates a tone that can be heard
through the speaker. It may take time
and experimentation to understand its
applications.
